EARTH DAY 2010 “… Brooklyn, NY community coming together to change the world.”
Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, students at P.S. 119 in Brooklyn, New York plant a lilac tree with Mr. G, CW 11’s weatherman.
These students know first hand the value and importance of giving a tree the right care from day one is essential for long life and health.
We’re inspired by these students for their commitment to the environment and by people like Mr. G who validate the importance and relevance of their work by visiting their school, engaging them in dialogue around environmental stewardship and airing their story on the evening news.
Teacher and The LEAGUE Head Coach, Mrs. Genevieve Berretta continues to present students with unique opportunities to engage students in academic service learning and character education. Together with their leader and Principal Lisa Hernandez, teachers, parents and administrators at this school lead the way in building civically engaged leaders of tomorrow.
New York's most popular TV weatherman, Mr. G (Irv Gikofsky), began his career as a school teacher at Albert Einstein Intermediate School in The Bronx. While a teacher, he created New York City school system's first computerized weather program for use by children and their teachers.
